Watch: Wilco’s Jeff Tweedy Joins Japanese Breakfast for Surprise Sit-in at Pitchfork Music Festival

On Saturday evening, halfway through Japanese Breakfast’s set at Pitchfork Music Festival at Union Park in Chicago, Wilco’s Jeff Tweedy surprised concertgoers with a two-track sit-in.
Michelle Zauner, the 33-year-old lead singer and songwriter for Japanese Breakfast, was well in the midst of her song “Kokomo, IN,” which appeared on Japanese Breakfast’s 2021 album Jubilee, and notably, Tweedy covered in an Instagram livestream – when he casually joined her on stage.
Following the track, Zauner told the audience, “Jeff Tweedy is my favorite songwriter of all time, and it’s such an honor. Thank you so much for playing with us.”
To which he responded, “Thank you for having me. So beautiful, thank you so much. Thank you.”
Tweedy was then handed a guitar as Zauner introduced the upcoming song as a “special one.” They then performed Wilco’s “Jesus Etc.,” marking the second time Zauner joined Tweedy on the iconic 2002 song following their joint performance at this year’s Solid Sound Festival.
