Watch: The Road To Ventura, Dark Star Orchestra Perform “Mr. Charlie” at SKULL & ROSES

Today, Relix shares the latest installment of their live video series with SKULL & ROSES, The Road To Ventura, in celebration of the festival’s forthcoming return to the Ventura County Fairgrounds in Ventura, Calif. on April 19-23 of 2023. The latest pro-shot video features Dark Star Orchestra’s performance from SKULL & ROSES 2022’s gathering as they rip through a true-to-form rendition of “Mr. Charlie” from the Grateful Dead’s Europe ’72 (Live) – in celebration of the LP’s 50th anniversary.

During the performance, in the usual fashion, Dark Star Orchestra paid homage to the Grateful Dead with deep consideration and mindful playing. During the set, lead guitarist Jeff Mattson was thrilled to use Jerry Garcia’s famed alligator Fender Stratocaster, which he used during the Grateful Dead’s Europe tour all those years ago.

Like the rest of the sets at SKULL & ROSES, Dark Star Orchestra’s rendition of “Mr. Charlie” captured the loving energy that emanates from the festival that celebrates and honors the lasting legacy and music of the Grateful Dead. The clip of Dark Star Orchestra performing “Mr. Charlie” follows previous releases from The Road To Ventura series including Oteil & Friends’ rendition of Old and in the Way’s “Midnight Moonlight” and Melvin Seals and JGB performing “Cats Under The Stars.”

Stay tuned for more exciting moments from SKULL & ROSES 2022 on the going The Road To Ventura video series.
