In celebration of their recent Grammy nomination for their album Empire Central, the genre-defying musical collective Snarky Puppy have shared a new live-in-studio performance video of their single “Pineapple.” The performance is in line with the album as a whole, which was recorded in front of studio audiences over eight nights at Dallas’ Deep Ellum Art Company and follows clips for five tracks off the project: “Trinity,” “Bet,” “Belmont,” “Take It!” and “RL’s.”

“Pineapple” was written and recorded by the four-time Grammy-winning ensemble’s trumpet/flugelhorn player Mike “Maz” Maher, who describes the single as “an upbeat dance track with a groove smack dab in the middle of house and new jack swing. Blistering improvisations propel the tune forward without departing from the fun danceability of the song.”

Along with showcasing the process of the creation of the album, the video also sheds light on Empire Central as a whole; 16 tracks in celebration of musical creation and a love letter to Dallas, which gave birth to the group and to its own members including the late Bernard Write who is featured on the album and passed at 58 shortly after recording the Empire Central sessions.

The band will also set to tour in the U.S. in the spring of 2023, making stops in cities including Chicago, Boston, New York, Philadelphia, Pittsburgh, Washington, D.C., Nashville, Tenn. and more.
