Phil Lesh has shared the latest installment of The Clubhouse Sessions series on his Terrapin Clubhouse YouTube channel. Bulking up previous artist lineups, the new video finds the Grateful Dead bassist joined by an old friend and first-time participant, the venerable bluegrass great Peter Rowan, as well as previous lineup contributors; Stu Allen, John Molo, Barry Sless, Holly Bowling, Elliott Peck, Jason Crosby and Dan “Lebo” Lebowitz.

The musical sequence includes five movements and clocks in at over 40 minutes, commencing with instrumental interplay and opening credits, naming every contributor. As the first full delivery, Rowan leads fellow features through his self-penned number, “Midnight Moonlight,” a cornerstone of the Old & in The Way catalog turn Jerry Garcia Band cover. Striking a country tone due to Sless’ pedal steel and Crosby’s unmatched cascade across the fiddle string, met with a call for Bowling’s keys.

From the depths of the 1978 release, the group shifts to the Dead catalog, landing on a twangy “Ripple,” with a featured lyrical lead from Peck and harmonization from Allen. Upon reaching the chorus, Lesh picks up the lines, “Ripple in still water/ When there is no pebble tossed/ Nor wind to blow.” Returning to Rowan’s Old & in The Way roots and his own archive of self-scribed material, the group of musicians works through “Land of the Navajo” before the arrival of “Dupree’s Blue Diamonds,” lyrically led by Allen, who continues the role with ensuing and final number for this session, “Dire Wolf.”
