The sonic integrity of a Grateful Dead concert has long been a pull for frequency seekers. During the onset of the psychedelic ‘70s, the band’s fathom audio engineer, Owsley Stanley, recruited John Meyer to assist in actualizing the Wall of Sound. This first-of-its-kind high-fidelity system would ultimately change the course of live music, and still inspires a partnership between the modern iteration of select players, Dead & Company, and Meyer Sound, resulting in a new short film, A Legacy in Live Sound.

The short movie follows the band’s sonic history, from the onset of the Wall of Sound and its revolutionary effect on live shows, through Dead & Company’s forthcoming arrival at Golden Gate Park in San Francisco on August 1-3, 2025. In the video, the story is told through interviews with band members, the co-founders of Meyer Sound, John and Helen Meyer. Also featured in conversation is UltraSound CEO and Dead & Company tour director, Derek Featherstone.

As a whole, the film sets illustrate Meyer Sound’s commitment to producing the highest fidelity listening experience and how it reconceived live audio, inspiring the next generation of audio engineers and artists. During the impending shows, which celebrate the original band’s six-decade ascent, Meyer Sound will power the performances using its flagship PANTHER system.
