On Thursday, March 7, Tedeschi Trucks Band brought their Deuces Wild tour to the Warner Theatre in Washington, D.C. During the concert, the band welcomed opener Duane Betts to sit on the final songs of the main frame. Touching on his Allman Brothers Band lineage, Betts assisted his hosts on a pair of covers, “Blue Sky” and “In Memory of Elizabeth Reed.”

Before the noteworthy team-up, Betts brought a guest up during his set: TTB drummer Tyler Greenwell, his presence expanded Bett’s initial duo lineup to trio status. Next, Tedeschi Trucks Band started out their stage time with “Just as Strange” and a follow-up cover of Derek and the Dominos’ “The Truth.” After a cascade of originals, they took on Aretha Franklin’s “It Ain’t Fair” and another cover, this time Blind Joe Reynolds’ “Outside Woman Blues.”

The fan favorite, “Midnight in Harlem,” broke up another series of borrowed tunes, that included Sleepy John Estes’ “Leaving Trunk” merged with Rahsaan Roland Kirk’s “Volunteered Slavery.” Next, they turned to Susan Tedeschi’s solo archive, “Just Won’t Burn,” prior to welcoming Betts to the stage.

Before jumping into Allman Brothers Band material, Tedeschi mentioned her and Duane Trucks’ 25-year history with the guest guitarist. Tedeschi took on the favored “Blue Sky” lyrics while the collective of guitar players riffed on the Eat a Peach classic. In continuation of the sit-in, Trucks, and Betts traded licks on instrumental “In Memory of Elizabeth Reed,” stretching the tune and layering it with some of the night’s best sonic moments.
