North Mississippi Allstars have unveiled the title track and official music video for “Still Shakin’.” The song and visual companion piece arrive in preparation for the June 6, 2025, release of the band’s 11-track LP, produced by brothers Luther and Cody Dickinson and recorded at their family studio, Zebra Ranch, in Independence, Miss.
Still Shakin’ is linked to North Mississippi Allstars’ 2000 debut LP, Shake Hands with Shorty. The band’s twelfth album will surface as a capstone to their 25-year tenure, offering an expansion of their first album that showcases the brothers’ widening skill set harnessed to a steadfast commitment to tradition, Mississippi Hill Country, Sacred Steel, and an aptitude for psychedelic jams.
“‘Still Shakin’” grew from a studio improv jam and I knew I wanted to write a song for the title track, expressing our gratitude to anyone that has supported us over these 25 years. Stringing hill country inside jokes together, the lyrics kept coming to me and I laid them down on the road using my kid’s karaoke mic,” Luther said of the track.
The official music video for the album’s title track was recorded in part at the late Willie Mitchell’s iconic Royal Studios and other settings that visually assist in exhibiting Luther’s status as a confident bandleader. Groovin’, movin’ and shakin’ across the screen, the visual companion piece, goes beyond the contemporary, shifting back to the past with fan-shot scenes from yesteryears, a seated Luther on stage, which helps to delineate his earned stage presence over the past 25 years.
“‘Still Shakin’ has a light-hearted spirit of gratitude and joy, not weighed down by concept or agenda. We appreciate still being in the game and this album is a thank you card to anyone that ever supported us and helped us continue to fight for the ability to live our dream.
We are proud to represent the Memphis Music Underground, the Community of North Mississippi musicians and be a part of modern-day touring culture. We always keep one eye on the road ahead, in the moment at hand, while anticipating the future. The other eye is on the rearview mirror, reflecting the elders and their repertoire night after night. Our music evokes home, which is nice, since we travel so much. The locations change, but music itself is our constant. The music is our home away from home. We look forward to the next 25 years of North Mississippi World Boogie,” Luther says.
Luther and Cody Dickinson began the North Mississippi Allstars in 1996 to bring musicians together using a loose concept, not unlike the jam scene’s “And Friends” approach. Luther embarked on his first national tour while backing scene elder R.L. Burnside on guitar. Commenting on the experience, he said, “That experience blew my mind, and Cody and I have been on the road ever since.”
Honoring their longevity, North Mississippi Allstars will take to the road and celebrate 30 years in 2026, following the release of Still Shakin’.
