Toy Factory Project Play Jerry Garcia’s “They Love Each Other” for First Time in Richmond
On Wednesday evening, the Toy Factory Project took its current live outing to Music at Maymont in Richmond, Va. The performance served as the group’s third delivery on their current spring outing, which initiated over two nights at Green Lake Amphitheater in Wilmington, N.C. Last night’s follow-up continued the group’s emerging trend of debuting cover material from the Grateful Dead/ Jerry Garcia songbook. “They Love Each Other” served as Wednesday night’s debut.
Southern rock supergroup, which pays homage to the music of the Marshall Tucker Band and features original drummer Paul Riddle, while also honoring the late Toy Caldwell’s contributions, started their gig with a heap of nods via “Running Like the Wind,” “24 Hours at a Time,” “This Ol’ Country,” “Searchin’ for a Rainbow” and “Fly Like an Eagle.”
The first set brought out renditions of “Long Hard Ride” and “Fire on the Mountain” from Searchin’ for a Rainbow, before the show’s debut: Jerry Garcia’s “They Love Each Other.” The choice cover came after previously delivering the Dead’s “Franklin’s Tower” during the previous concert on Tuesday evening.
After concluding their third tour stop, the band will take their talents to DelFest, along with special guest Sam Bush.
