Third Man Records Announces Latest Vault Package: Miles Davis ‘Fearless’
Jack White’s Third Man Records has announced Vault Package #56, Miles Davis – Fearless. The package features a treasured recording of Davis and his band opening for Neil Young & Crazy Horse and The Steve Miller Band across two shows at The Fillmore East. It will be available via a Vault Subscription offer through April 30 at midnight CST.
The Vault Package captures Davis on trumpet, Wayne Shorter on tenor and soprano saxophones, Chick Corea on electric piano, Dave Holland on bass, Jack De Johnette on drums and Airto Moriera on percussion during two performances (early/late) opening for the aforementioned musical groups on March 7, 1970, in New York City.
The impending release highlights tracks that were initially featured on Bitches Brew, coupled with the live debut of “Willie Nelson,” a tune tracked in the studio a few weeks before the live performance. The recording captures Corea’s introduction of the wah-wah pedal, a tool that the entirety of the band would soon employ. In addition, the release presents listeners with lively solos from Shorter and improvisations on “Spanish Key” and “It’s About That Time / Willie Nelson.”
This collection, which has been newly titled Fearless, will be available for the first time on vinyl and is the 56th installment in the Third Man Records Vault subscription service. The impending package will be presented on 180-gram vinyl LPs and available in 3x colorways, pink, maroon, and red disc options, with a special F-side etching.
The package also features a 7″ record of Muriel Grossmann’s Muriel Grossmann Plays Miles, which features covers of the quintessential classics such as “Go Ahead John,” “In A Silent Way,” and “Miles Runs The Voodoo Down,” and serves as a fitting addition beside the Fearless collection.
