The Del McCoury Band Visit _The Street of Baltimore_

August 15, 2013

The Del McCoury Band will release their next album, The Streets of Baltimore, on September 17. The band has announced that, while their last two albums—2012’s tribute to Bill Monroe ( Old Memories) and 2011’s Preservation Hall Band collaboration ( American Legacies)—were recorded with themes in mind, the next record will show the band at their “most relaxed and free-form.”

The album’s title is a reference to McCoury’s early days, when he got his start playing Baltimore honky-tonks in the late 1950s. These old school country influences are present on the album, which includes renditions of tunes like Bobby Bare’s “Streets of Baltimore,” Brenda Lee’s “Too Many Rivers,” Jerry Lew Lewis’ “Once More With Feeling” and a take on Ray Stevens’ banjo-driven version of “Misty.”

Whereas at times the song selection has been a collaborative efforts with McCoury’s sons Ronnie and Rob along with bandmates Jason Carter and Alan Bartram, this time the group’s namesake has selected the material. Along with a McCoury original, the songs also include newer tunes by such songwriters as Shawn Camp, Mike O’Reilly and Bill Anderson.

The album can now be pre-ordered for $13.99 via Amazon.
