On Saturday, Nov. 22, The New Mastersounds touched down in New York for the last show in the last full leg of their TTFN Tour – shorthand for “Ta-Ta for Now.” After 26 years of touring abroad, the British four-piece funk powerhouse announced their final US tour in the spring and have celebrated their live legacy with a sprawling cross-country tour since. The band’s final stop in Brooklyn, preceding a New Year’s Eve double-header in Denver, served as a fond farewell to stateside fans through 27 tracks reflecting the vibrant whole of their catalog. Highlights within the mix included the opening treatment of “Do the Sausage Roll,” sit-ins from members of Norside Trio on “102%, “No Way” and “You Mess Me Up,” Shira Ellis’ guest vocals on “Never Did I Ever Stop Loving You” covers of Stretch’s “Why Did You Do It” and the Grateful Dead’s “Help on the Way” and a final encore of “Land of Nod” and “Nervous.”
