On Tuesday and Wednesday, The Brothers returned to Madison Square Garden for their long-awaited reunion. Back on the legendary stage where it all started five years ago, the tribute supergroup honored the legacy and enduring influence of The Allman Brothers Band with the unmatched talents of the Southern rock’s originators’ former members and foremost devotees.

The Brothers’ revival brought together the Allman Brothers’ drummer and founding member Jaimoe, guitarist and vocalist Warren Haynes, guitarist Derek Trucks, bassist Oteil Burbridge and percussionist Marc Quiñones, as well as the iconic band’s original rehearsal keyboardist Reese Wynans and special guest ‘70s era pianist Chuck Leavell. All of these storied performers took part in The Brothers unforgettable 2020 stand at The Garden; this year, they found further support from acclaimed drummers and newcomers to the group Joe Russo and Isaac Eady.

While The Brothers’ original stand at The Garden was arranged to celebrate The Allman Brothers Band’s 50th anniversary, their return this year was spurred by the success of the SOULSHINE hurricane relief benefit last November and the feeling that came with Haynes and Trucks’ reunion on stage. When the longtime collaborators and guitar counterparts in the ABB’s final era lit up a red-hot treatment of “Whipping Post,” they quickly realized that the time had come to join their former bandmates in the world’s most famous arena again.

Attendees at this week’s performances saw the stacked ensemble blazing through a litany of the Allmans’ genre-defining originals like “Trouble No More,” “Midnight Rider,” “Blue Sky,” “Mountain Jam,” “In Memory of Elizabeth Reed,” “Revival,” “Soulshine,” “Jessica,” “Southbound” and the always electrifying “Whipping Post.” Get an inside look at the action in the photo gallery below, courtesy of photographer Bill Kelly.
