Last night, Brandi Carlile continued her summer tour at the Starlight Theater in Kansas City, Mo. The artist’s main set featured a mix of covers and original tunes, then she invited Tanya Tucker and Katie Pruitt on stage individually to lend their talents during the night’s encore. Currently, Tucker and Pruitt are the opening acts on the latest stops of Carlile’s Beyond These Silent Days Tour.

Carlile opened up the night with a number off her 2021 LP, for which the tour is named, In These Silent Days with “Broken Horses,” before moving into 2015’s “The Things I Regret.” Then, for the third song of the night, Carlile and her band dug into “The Eye” before the band leader took a solo on “The Mother.”

The 13-song main set continued with another taste of In These Silent Days when the group landed on “Mama Werewolf,” ahead of a cover of Joni Mitchell’s seminal track “Woodstock.” Then, Carlile pulled out another cover, this time Elton John’s “Rocket Man.” “Right on Time” and “Cannonball” arrived next before they played “Sinners, Saints and Fools.”

Following the final tunes of the ensemble’s main set, Carlile welcomed her first guest of the night to the stage. Pruitt joined the band on “Mainstream Kid” off 2015’s The Firewatcher’s Daughter. After Pruitt left the stage, Tucker arrived to assist on 2012’s “That Wasn’t Me” from the LP, Bear Creek. Then, Tucker stuck around for her original tune, “Bring My Flowers Now,” to cap off the night’s sit-ins.

2018’s “Hold Out Your Hand” arrived before Carlile and her band performed “Stay Gentle.” Then, for the final song of Carlile’s evening in Kansas City, Mo., she played a classic cover of Harold Arlen’s monumental track “Over the Rainbow.” Following last night’s show, Carlile and company will pick back up tomorrow for a sold-out show at Ascend Amphitheater in Nashville, Tenn., where she’ll be joined by special guests the Indigo Girls, Celisse and Lucius.
