Next month, HeadCount and Dayglo Presents are teaming up to present Don’t Tell Me This Country Ain’t Got No Heart: A Benefit for Voter Participation at New York’s famed Apollo Theater, and headlining the event will be Phil Lesh & Very Special Guests.

Joining Lesh at the benefit concert will be the Harlem Gospel Choir and The Terrapin Family Band (featuring Grahame Lesh, Jason Crosby, Ross James and Alex Koford), plus Nicki Bluhm, Eric Krasno, Talib Kweli and Robert Randolph.

“This moment requires each of us to step up and get involved,” says Lesh, who will become the first founding Grateful Dead member to play the legendary venue. “Playing the Apollo for the first time is both an honor for me personally and something I can do to help support as many people voting in the Midterms and beyond. I can’t wait for September 7th…and November 6th.”

The Apollo benefit concert will support HeadCount and its voter-registration efforts, including events at high schools and colleges, along with “The Future is Voting” campaign and many local community organization initiatives. HeadCount will also be running voter-registration drives at the Apollo’s Amateur Night for the next six weeks.

“We are seeing history unfold around us every day, and this concert will be a unique part of that history,” says HeadCount co-founder and Executive Director Andy Bernstein. “We are honored that Phil and these amazing artists have chosen voter participation as the cause they want to support.”

Tickets for Don’t Tell Me This Country Ain’t Got No Heart go on sale this Friday, August 17, at noon ET here and at the Apollo’s box office. A pre-sale will begin tomorrow, August 16, at 10am ET with passcode 18VOTE. Details on a live webcast of the show are also expected soon.
