Paul McCartney Delivers Two Intimate Concerts at Los Angeles’ Fonda Theatre
Over the weekend, Paul McCartney put on an intimate two-night run at the 1,200-capacity Fonda Theatre in Los Angeles. Friday’s return represented the first time the doe-eyed bassist had played for a live audience since concluding his stadium-sized Get Back Tour in November 2025. Despite the lapse in appearances, McCartney’s comeback coincided with word of his new nostalgia-laden album, The Boys of Dungeon Lane, and the arrival of the first single, “Days We Left Behind.”
While Macca has been busy preparing for the imminent release of his 19th solo LP, the new single was not part of Friday or Saturday’s setlists. Instead, the maestro produced two events that mimicked the material he would have played to an arena crowd: a heavy mix of songs from his Beatles and Wings eras, spiced with solo material that conjured a reflective, abundant display of his time in the spotlight.
Friday’s concert opened with “Help!” before the solo release, “Coming Up.” Next, the ensemble moved through a segment of the Beatles and Wings classics, ahead of “My Valentine.” The bandleader followed with “Nineteen Hundred and Eighty-Five,” and ultimately clicked into a well-received section that featured “Love Me Do,” “Blackbird,” “Now and Then,” and “Lady Madonna.”
Rarity “Flaming Pie” was inserted in front of a final arrangement of classics, “Jet,” “Ob-La-Di, Ob-La-Da,” “Get Back,” “Let It Be” and “Hey Jude.” For the night’s encore, McCartney played send-offs, “Golden Slumbers,” “Carry That Weight” and a well-placed “The End.”
The jump from night one to two carried a similar focus, leading to a familiar arrangement of choice material during Saturday’s City of Angels finale. Regardless of the resemblance between night one and two, the latter show included newly placed “Maybe I’m Amazed,” “From Me to You,” “Something,” and “Band on the Run.”
At this time, McCartney does not have any future live appearances on his itinerary. For the latest, visit www.paulmccartney.com.
