Once again, Neil Young is making headlines. The 79-year-old globally recognized guitarist continues his creative streak with a new output, Coastal, a live album centered around select live performances culled from his 2023 solo tour and due on April 18, 2025. As a preview of the impending collection, Young has shared “Vampire Blues (Live).”

Paired with news of the forthcoming live album is a visual companion piece that visualizes Young’s experience on the road through the eyes of his wife and the film’s director Daryl Hannah. Described as a behind-the-scenes documentary, it offers an intimate look at Young’s post-pandemic solo tour. The film will screen in cinemas worldwide, for one night only on Thursday, April 17.

According to the video’s description, “Coastal offers a glimpse behind the curtain of this unguarded iconoclast, as he navigates a return to the stage post-Covid – from his everyday observations on the bus to his candid, wry banter with his audience. The illuminating film also features songs rarely, if ever played live, performed in breathtakingly beautiful theaters.”

Like the description suggests, the LP tracking list presents select songs from Young’s 2023 jaunt, representing different avenues of his career, from Mirror Ball featured “I’m The Ocean,” “Throw Your Hatred Down” to the Sleeps with Angels Cut, “Prime of Life,” and Are You Passionate? inclusion “When I Hold You in My Arms,” the live set percolates rarities–songs that did not necessarily receive their live due.

By contrast, the set also saves space for crowd pleasers, “Comes a Time,” “I am a Child,” and newer anthem, turning fan favorite, “Love Earth.” The album is available on two vinyl color variants, including clear and classic black. A CD option is also available, view more.

In addition to solo news, Young and his Chrome Hearts band have joined the BST Hyde Park lineup, alongside fellow greats, Yusuf/ Cat Stevens and Van Morrison for appearances on Friday, July 11, 2025, at Hyde Park in London.

Morrison has also been in the headlines after announcing his 46th studio album and first collection of original music since 2022, the 14-track Remembering Now, due on June 13, 2025. Read more.
