Mike Gordon Announces First Concert in New Orleans Since 2019

Mike Gordon is returning to New Orleans. For the first time since 2019, the Phish bassist will perform a one-night stand at the Joy Theater on May 2, 2025. Karina Rykman will support him. The show will take place on Friday before the final weekend of the New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival. The last time Gordon played in NOLA was May 3, 2019, see a video below.

At this time, Gordon’s Cresent City concert serves as his only solo gig on the calendar. The newly announced date arrived after the bassist and his daughter Tessa sat in with Circles Around The Sun and Mikaela Davis at San Francisco’s The Independent on Saturday, Feb. 22, 2025, for a collaborative take on “After Sunrise.” Read more

Until his time on the Joy Theater stage, Gordon and his Phish bandmates take part in a brief sequence of concerts along the West Coast, dubbed Spring Tour 2025. The tight run of shows begins with two nights in Seattle on April 18-19 and their subsequent Portland, Ore., follow-up on April 20. Down the coastline, Phish will participate in two nights in San Francisco before wrapping their run with three performances at Los Angeles’ Hollywood Bowl on April 25-27.

“When I’m onstage in the middle of a big jam, sometimes the way the groove is floating feels like flying—that’s what’s in my brain,” Gordon told Relix in his 2023 interview regarding his latest solo LP Flying Games. “There’s a very acute sense of that from the propulsion and the feeling of the music. It’s similar to dreams where it’s been really significant and fun to get off the ground. That’s all also connected to my sense of a flow state.”

Like the feeling he created on Flying Games, Gordon fixed the description “a night of entirely new dimensions of kaleidoscopic music” to his forthcoming concert preview.

Tickets go on sale to the general public on Wednesday, Feb. 26, 2025. Read Track By Track: Mike Gordon Finds New Flow with Flying Games.
