Yesterday, Mumford & Sons’ band leader, Marcus Mumford, shared his plans on Instagram to release his debut solo album (self-titled) on Sept. 16. The Instagram post served as the British-American singer, songwriter, musician and record producer’s first Instagram post to date. The album will feature a variety of artists, including Brandi Carlile, Clairo, Phoebe Bridgers, and Monica Martin.

“In January 2021, facing demons I danced with for a long time in isolation, I wrote a song called ‘Cannibal,’” Mumford wrote in the post laying out the beginning stages of (self-titled). He added, “I took it to my friend Blake Mills, and we began the process of making this album, dear to my heart, called (self-titled).”

Mumford recently teased the album’s release during Carlile’s performance last month, during her stop at the Greek Theatre in Los Angeles on June 24, as part of her Beyond These Silent Days Tour. He joined her on stage in an act of collaboration and gratitude for her contribution to the final track on his then-unannounced album, and she expressed her admiration both through spoken word and later in the performance through howling vocal harmonies.

Additionally, despite his new solo debut and the band’s banjo player, Winston Marshall, taking a leave of absence last year, rumors of Mumford & Sons’ breakup were put to rest by Mumford while on stage with Carlile.
