Listen to the Evolution of Umphrey’s McGee’s “The Silent Type” from Demo to Studio Track

November 21, 2017

Many of Umphrey’s McGee’s songs can be traced back a number of years, with various snippets of the tune emerging over the course of a few years until ultimately landing on an album.

Some songs aren’t so lucky, either never materializing or failing to make a record and thus falling out of rotation. “Through the Cracks” is one that can be put into the category of the unlucky while “Forks” is a new success story, landing on the band’s new album its not us. The lead single from that record, “The Silent Type,” also has roots that dig back a number of years and the band has put together a video to showcase its evolution.

From an early Brendan Bayliss demo to various lyrical jams dating back to 2011, “The Silent Type” (often called “Cigarette Cables”) went through the true Umphrey’s McGee process.
