Listen: The String Cheese Incident Release New Bonus Track “Windy Mountain”

Today, The String Cheese Incident treat fans to “Windy Mountain,” a special bonus track from the band’s 2023 album Lend Me A Hand. Recorded in the original sessions that brought the group’s acclaimed tenth studio album to such renewed poignancy, this latest offering dwells in a cozy, inspiring register as the lyrics present a sentimental meditation on homecoming.

In tune with the album that precedes it, this single exudes a meaningful simplicity, delivering reflective musings through breezy roots-oriented arrangements. Easy like a breath of fresh mountain air, the song beams with optimism as it looks off to a distant horizon, entreating the listener, “The time is right / Do you feel it too? / We’ll pull up stakes / And we’ll search for something new / We’ll go back to the country, me and you.” “I actually lived in a miner’s cabin in a little town above Boulder with my family for a couple of years,” says Bill Nershi, setting the scenery and tone for his composition.  “It was built in the 1890s. The old spirits still reside there. They gave me the gift of this song.”

Tonight, fans can tune in to another dispatch from the ensemble’s Friday Night Cheese series, which was re-launched on Jan. 26 to tide over followers anxiously awaiting its return to the road. This week’s Incident is a four-hour double feature, composed of the band’s April 1, 2000 performance at Stubb’s BBQ in Austin, Texas and its April 12, 2003 Tokyo presentation. Visit nugs.net/sci at 8 p.m. ET to tune in.
