The Eagles are the latest band to sign on for a residency at the new state-of-the-art Sphere venue in Las Vegas. The six-time Grammy-winning ensemble known for “Take It Easy,” “Hotel California,” “One of These Nights,” and other radio frequenters and chart-topping hits will participate in eight shows over four weekends from Friday, Sept. 20 through Saturday, Oct. 19.
During their stay in Sin City, the band, which includes sole original member Don Henley, second lineup addition/ long-time player in the referred rock group Joe Walsh, and 1977 tour drop-in, turned feature Timothy B. Schmit, will offer a two-show format each weekend, with concerts occurring each Friday and Saturday from the third week of September through mid-October.
According to the group’s official press release, the Eagles’ Sphere experience will deliver the ultimate fan experience, a trip down memory lane, as the veteran musicians work through their esteemed catalog of music, the so-called personification of American sound, a rich blend of country, folk, R&B, rock, and pop tendencies.
Since their 1971 start, the Eagles have gained esteem, having sold more than 150 million albums worldwide, earned six No. 1 albums, and topped the singles charts five times. Inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 1998, the public’s reception and admiration for their music has served as a sonic dose of the American experience for over five decades.
Last summer, the band suggested that their touring days were coming to an end with the rollout of their The Long Goodbye run, paired with a note from the Eagles, which concluded, “At the end of the day, you are the reason we have been able to carry on for over five decades. This is our swan song, but the music goes on and on.”
In a similar move to Dead & Company, who announced their Final Tour only to follow up with an extensive Sphere residency, the Eagles join the ranks of referred rock groups to ditch life on the road in favor of the single-venue experience.
