Les Claypool Announces Claypool Gold Tour with Primus, Claypool Lennon Delirium and Fearless Flying Frog Brigade, Shares New Single “WAP”
Les Claypool and Sean Ono Lennon
In his four decades on the forefront of funk-metal and avant-rock, Les Claypool’s music has seen many mutations in scattered projects. This summer, those loose ends will come together with Claypool Gold, uniting Primus, The Claypool Lennon Delirium and the Fearless Frog Brigade to share the stage simultaneously on an unprecedented tour. From May 20 to July 4, the bassist and bandleader will lead his storied ensemble on a 30-stop trek across the country, promising a “mind-melting musical experience” and “fluid show featuring wildly different setlists and surprises.”
To celebrate the occasion, Claypool and Sean Ono Lennon have reunited for “WAP (What a Predicament),” The Claypool Lennon Delirium’s first release since their 2019 sophomore album South of Reality. The duo’s latest release pushes their unstable isotope of acid-prog experimentalism into a hazy, hallucinatory take on classic psych-pop. In a delirious spiral of churning guitar, romping bass and na-na-nas, Lennon looks out on contemporary confusion and declares, “I’m not sure if history repeats itself, but I’m certain that it rhymes.”
The Claypool Gold tour will kick off from Reno, Nev.’s Reno Events Center on May 20, then proceed up to the Northwest for four stops, including Bend, Ore.’s Hayden Homes Amphitheater, from May 22-26. The caravan will cruise into the Midwest with a May 28 engagement at Kansas City, Mo.’s Starlight Amphitheatre, then remain in the region for six shows, including Chicago’s Salt Shed and Columbus, Ohio’s Jacobs Pavilion, through June 6.
A nine-show East Coast series will take the bands to such vaunted venues as Saratoga Springs, N.Y.’s SPAC, Asbury Park, N.J.’s Stone Pony Summerstage, Atlanta’s Synovus Bank Amphitheater and Columbia, Md.’s All Good Now Festival through June 20. They’ll march on through Texas, Colorado and the Southwest to a final three-stop California series, culminating in an Independence Day finale at Napa’s Meritage Resort & Spa.
Tickets for the Claypool Gold tour are available for pre-sale now, with a general on-sale to follow on Friday, Jan. 23 at 10 a.m. local at lesclaypool.com. Listen to “WAP (What a Predicament)” below, and read on for the full list of tour dates.
