Julien’s Auctions Unites with MusiCares to Offer Charity Relief Auction Featuring Rare and Historic Grateful Dead Items 

Julien’s Auctions and MusiCares have united in their call to action to help the underserved music community following the devastating Los Angeles wildfires in early January. To raise financial support, an auction featuring items from the MusiCares 2025 Persons of the Year Honoree, the Grateful Dead. Included are 20 never-before-seen items from the revered San Francisco ensemble. 

The auction is slated to include memorabilia ranging from Dead-associated instruments to artwork, items of clothing donned by members, and an array of other desirables that piece together the band’s history and effervescent run. Bids can be placed online at juliensauctions.com or in person at the Recording Academy in Santa Monica, Calif., on Sunday, Feb. 2, 2025.

In line with the group’s 60th anniversary, the auction items harken back to the band’s golden years by offering an array of items that showcase the group’s multifaceted history. Jerry Garcia’s ivory-toned two-piece suit is at auction, complete with an interior pocket monogrammed “JG.” The ensemble was worn on the front cover of the band’s 1980-released Go To Heaven album. The garment is currently estimated between $10-20k. 

Also from the Garcia estate is a custom colorized fine art print of Jerry Garcia, signed by its photographer, Henry Diltz. The image also features an inscription that indicates the subject, estimated at $1-2k. Another member of the Dead has offered up his own [signed] D’Angelico Deluxe Bobby Weir 3 semi-hollowbody electric guitar in Satin Trans Wine finish, a Vox AC15HWX amplifier, and pedalboard complete with its grey road case with numerous stickers and tape markings, including “BW WEIR.”

In addition to the D’Angelico, Weir has listed the instrument’s hardshell case, which will come with two set lists from Dead Ahead, specifically the concert performed on Jan. 13, 2025. It also includes the original art of Mickey Hart, an acrylic on circular panel painting featuring a wood base with a lighting system that illuminates in different colors, titled “Planet 91011,” one of a few pieces created by the backbeat and up for auction. 

Fellow rhythm devil Bill Kreutzmann’s owned and used white Yamaha Alex Acuña 10″ timbale and Zildjian 18″ medium thin crash cymbal are also up for bid. Fans of the band will be keen on getting their hands on test pressings of the band’s albums, such as the 2024 reissue of 1973’s

Wake Of The Flood, the 2023 reissue of 1989’s Built To Last, and the 2024 reissue of the 1990 three-LP set Without A Net. Each was signed by Grateful Dead archivist David Lemieux and estimated at $300-500. 

The auction extends its offering of band-related items, from equipment to branded ski wear and a Grateful Dead vault tour hosted by Mark Pinkus, ranging in complimentary collectibles intended for fan appreciation and ownership.
