Jorma Kaukonen Talks Jefferson Airplane Reunion
In a new interview with the Huffington Post, Jefferson Airplane’s Jorma Kaukonen spoke about the potential of a reunion for the famed San Francisco rockers. The guitarist cited Grace Slick’s decision to not sing anymore as one of the reasons a reunion of the performance variety may not happen again but did mention that the members could reunite for other endeavors.
“Grace not singing anymore has taken a lot of pressure off the rest of us that really don’t have the time it would take to put together a show like that,” Kaukonen said. “I have nothing but respect for the Airplane but I’m just not there today.” Kaukonen went on to describe his current relationship with the members of the group, citing his recent gig with Paul Kantner at the Beacon Theater which featured a sit-in from Marty Balin. He also mentioned that he speaks with Grace Slick “all the time.”
“I think that something needs to be done,” Kaukonen continued. “We’re sort of working to see if everyone else is on board, because it would take so much work literally to put a band together, much less the band. But we’re all here, you know. It would be a shame not to do something.” Kaukonen mentioned he could see the surviving members reassembling to do lectures at colleges or talking about their creative process. “Just basically like having a seminar that involves the audience. That would be my idea.”
