Fans Asked To Submit Videos Of Their Dead Covers Of Songs

January 10, 2012

The Grateful Dead are asking fans to upload videos of them covering the Dead to Youtube as part of The Dead Covers Project. Starting today, fans can submit video of themselves covering songs by the Grateful Dead for their chance to be featured on Dead.net and the Dead’s Facebook page. A new video will be highlighted each day in February. In March, five of the videos from the 29 highlighted in February will be selected to be featured across all of the Dead’s online sites. The artists in these videos will also be profiled on Dead.net as well as this year’s edition of the Grateful Dead Almanac.
According to the site:

All video submissions must contain a song either written by or recorded by the Grateful Dead. How that song is interpreted, however, is entirely up to those covering it. In other words, if you think the world is ready for your speed metal version of “Sugaree” or hip-hop interpretation of “Ripple,” this is your chance to shine. All of the submitted videos will be available for viewing on the band’s official YouTube channel, www.youtube.com/gratefuldead. Each video should be tagged “DeadCoversProject” to ensure it ends up on the Dead’s YouTube channel.
