Disco Biscuits drummer Allen Aucoin has been hospitalized. Aucoin suffered a serious asthma attack on Christmas but is said to be recovering. The drummer will be released from the hospital this Tuesday and is expected to perform with his band at Upper Darby, PA’s Tower Theater on December 30 and 31. The Disco Biscuits will perform its three shows at New York’s Terminal 5 as scheduled with a series of special guests: Lotus drummer Mike Greenfield (12/27), Lettuce/Pretty Lights/Break Science drummer Adam Deitch (12/28), New Deal drummer Darren Shearer (12/28) and founding Disco Biscuits drummer Sam Altman (12/29).
Greenfield has sat in with the Disco Biscuits several times over the years, including a string of shows augmenting Altman on drums after he injured his hand in 2004. He also played portions of two shows with the band in 2005 before Aucoin officially joined the group. Deitch is currently touring with Disco Biscuits members Marc Brownstein and Aron Magner as part of Conspirator. Altman has also sat in with his former band several times over the past five years and filled in for Jon Gutwillig at Brooklyn Bowl after the guitarist injured himself earlier this year.
An official statement from the band reads:
2010 has been a great year, but it has not been without its challenges. And no matter what gets dealt to us at this point, we know that we are going to get through it, in no small part due to the support our fans have shown us. Throughout the year, we have been forced to respond to adversity with calm and strength. We always try to take lemons and make lemonade. In the process, we have made new friends, and found out how much we are capable of during times of duress.
Well if we hadn’t been through enough, last night we received a call from Allen’s father. Yesterday, Allen suffered a serious asthma attack and was hospitalized. He will be fine, but unfortunately will not be released from the hospital until Tuesday. Fortunately, his doctors have cleared him to play on December 30 and 31. Our thoughts are with Allen and his family.
For tomorrow, Tuesday, and Wednesday, we are putting together an amazing line-up with drummers that we have played with in other projects throughout the years. We are blessed to have such a strong network of amazing drummers to call on. Check it out:
Tomorrow, we are honored to welcome Mike Greenfield from Lotus. This will be the fourth time Mike plays a show with us, and they are always classic sets.
On Tuesday, we’ll be joined by two of the hottest drummers in North America. We are proud to welcome Adam Deitch from Break Science and Pretty Lights. As well we are excited to be joined by Darren Shearer from the New Deal.
On Wednesday we are being joined by our old friend, Dr. Sam Altman.
We’re not sure what else to really say, other than to keep Allen in your thoughts and prayers and we promise to deliver you wonderful, well thought-out shows while we are waiting for our brother to get back up here and join us for the new year.
Thank you so much for your support. We can’t wait to see you all tomorrow.
