Debut Season of ‘Long May They Run’ Podcast to Focus on Phish History

A new documentary-style podcast, Long May They Run, will make its debut this Wednesday, Sept. 18, with the first season devoted to the history, influence and legacy of Phish. The podcast is written and narrated by author, journalist and Relix editor-in-chief Dean Budnick.

The first season of Long May They Run, presented by C13Originals, will cover a variety of topics related to Phish, including their influence on the current music-festival scene, their unique relationship with fans in both music distribution as well as concert participation, and the story of the Vermont band’s unexpected rise to international fame, featuring interviews Budnick conducted with over 75 Phish-related individuals, including the members themselves and other musicians, former managers, legendary promoter Ron Delsener, rock photographer Danny Clinch, former NBA player and jamband aficionado Bill Walton, Bonnaroo co-founders Rick Farman and Kerry Black, and many more.

“I’m thrilled to have the opportunity to share these stories in this format,” Budnick—author of Jambands: The Complete Guide to the Players, Music, and Scene; Ticket Masters: The Rise of the Concert Industry and How the Public Got Scalped; and more—tells Variety. “Phish is such an innovative band and many of the group’s pioneering endeavors have been overlooked or nearly lost to history. It’s been a pleasure to work with the team at C13Originals to bring their far-reaching legacy to light.”

“Our vision was to create and give music fans a franchise set apart from anything that’s been done in podcasting,” says Chris Corcoran, chief content officer for Cadence13. “We believe that Long May They Run accomplishes just that, and will provide an experience that takes Phish fans, and music fans in general, to the next level, and redefine what can be done in this space. Dean is an astute and compelling storyteller and interviewer, and few bands have the musical and cultural impact of Phish, which made them the perfect choice for Season One.”

Long May They Run debuts this Wednesday, Sept. 18, with two episodes that will be available Apple Podcasts, RADIO.COM, Spotify and everywhere podcasts are found. Listen to the season one trailer below.
