David Gilmour touched down in the US just over a week ago, when the legendary artist finally arrived to deliver the nine highly-anticipated American performances on his Luck and Strange Tour. Today, Nov. 2, it’s clear that the icon is making the most of his first formal venture across the pond in eight years as he books an appearance on The Tonight Show for this coming week.
On Thursday, Nov. 7, Gilmour will join host Jimmy Fallon to perform a song from his latest studio album Luck and Strange, which arrived in April, eight years after his previous solo offering Rattle That Lock. The storied Pink Floyd guitarist’s return to the screen will also be his first US television appearance since a tour promoting that 2015 album, when he stopped in on Jimmy Kimmel Live for another rare and brief televised performance.
Gilmour’s session on the show will land on an off-night within his instantly sold-out five-night series at New York’s Madison Square Garden, which begins on Monday, Nov. 4 and concludes on next Sunday, Nov. 10. Gilmour’s New York run is the cherry on top of a long-awaited tour in the US and Europe, which began in Rome, moved to London and then commenced in Los Angeles with a staging at the brand-new Intuit Dome on Oct. 25. Through each of these destinations, the artist has held to a consistent ad carefully balanced setlist, bridging classic Floyd hits with later-era fan-favorites, plus a healthy helping of selections frm his last two solo albums. Though Gilmour has no further live performances slated following his series at The Garden, the guitarist has recently emphasized how his latest project rekindled his creative fire, suggesting that the wait for his next outing could be less than the eight-years fans recently weathered. This new willingness to put himself out there is exemplified not only by his upcoming TV-spot, but also by his surprisingly eager feature on a recent cover of “Comfortably Numb” by Ice-T’s hardcore rap-rock outfit Body Count. Maybe now that he’s finally gotten away from the “mud bath” of Pink Floyd catalog disputes and signed off on a $400 Million deal with Sony, Gilmour will be able to fully commit himself to his next creative horizon.
