Last night, Counting Crows closed out their two-night stint at The Capitol Theatre in Port Chester, N.Y. Over the two evenings, the San Francisco ’90s icons explored their extensive discography, showcased their latest LP Butter Miracle Suite One, welcomed opener Stephen Kellogg and gave a loving nod to the iconic venue with a cover of the Grateful Dead’s “Friend of the Devil.”

Counting Crows opened their first set on Tuesday evening with a bust-out of “Sullivan Street,” which was last heard from the band on Sept. 9, 2017. They directly flowed into favorites with the title track of their 2002 LP Hard Candy and arguably their most beloved song, “Mr. Jones.” They continued to roll out hits with “Butterfly in Reverse” and the vivid earworm “Omaha.”

In the middle of the set, they performed “Friend of the Devil” to the elation of the dedicated fans of The Capitol Theatre. Counting Crows followed the classic by ushering newer material off their latest album, 2021’s Butter Miracle Suite One, including “The Tall Grass,” “Elevator Boots,” “Angel of 14th Street,” and “Bobby and the Rat-Kings.” The ensemble went back to their roots with 1993’s “Rain King” before set closer, “A Long December.” After extended applause, Counting Crows returned with special guest Stephen Kellogg in tow for an encore comprised of “Hanginaround,” followed by a rendition of “Holiday in Spain.”

Counting Crows cracked Wednesday’s performance open with a slow-burning favorite off their beloved LP This Desert Life, “Speedway.” They continued with 2008’s “Come Around” and once again left the third and fourth slots to “Mr. Jones.” and “Colorblind.” They continued to explore their three-decade discography with hits including “I Wish I Was a Girl,” “Washington Square,” “God of Ocean Tides,” and more. Like the previous evening, they dished out new cuts from Butter Miracle Suite One during the latter half of the set, hitting The Tall Grass,” “Elevator Boots,” “Angel of 14th Street,” and “Bobby and the Rat-Kings.” Before closing with “Rain King” and “A Long December.”

For the encore on Wednesday, Counting Crows performed “Round Here” before welcoming Kellogg onstage for a cover of his song “Almost Woke You Up,” on which his daughters Sophia and Adeline joined. For the final song of the run, Counting Crows performed “Hanginaround,” this time with Kellogg and his collaborators David Chalfant and Jason Wexler.
