Bonnaroo 2020 Lineup & Interview with Bryan Benson of AC Entertainment: Tool, Lizzo, Tame Impala, Oysterhead and More

Bonnaroo 2020 will feature headliners Tool, Lizzo and Tame Impala, offering a trio of top-tier performers that are both commercially and critically acclaimed.

From June 11-14, the mega-festival will return to Manchester, Tenn.’s Great Stage Park for it’s 19th year, with additional performers like Oysterhead, Lana Del Rey, Primus, Vampire Weekend, Miley Cyrus and more.

“It’s a big puzzle,” says Bryan Best, who books the festival as part of the AC Entertainment team. “In terms of the headliners we want to get acts that are both musically diverse and artists core to Bonnaroo.”

Tool last performed at Bonnaroo in 2007 and, according to Benson, they were one of AC Entertainment’s top choices for 2020.

“It’s a pretty big deal for us to get Tool back on The Farm,” he explains. “They still have one of the most legendary sets ever played [at Bonnaroo]. To get them back, they’re bigger than they’ve ever been at this particular point. That record they put out last year was incredible and to have those guys back out there is going to be amazing.”

On the other side of the musical spectrum, Benson taps chart-topper Lizzo as “one of the most relevant artists on the planet and one of the most important artists” in music today.

“For us to have her in headline position is a no-brainer. It will be one of the highlights of the weekend,” he concludes.

Benson also sees Tame Impala as a “core Bonnaroo act” that will act as the center of events on Sunday.

Speaking of artists core to Bonnaroo, Oysterhead will make their return to The Farm in 2020, bringing their highly-anticipated reunion tour full circle, to the same stage where the played their last pre-hiatus show in 2006.

“Building off of having Phish return last year, we made that booking a priority,” Benson said of the Trey Anastasio, Les Claypool, Stewart Copeland trio.

Other jam scene regulars on the Roo 2020 lineup include Andy Frasco, Pigeons Playing Ping Pong, Billy Strings, Greensky Bluegrass, Turkuaz (performing Remain in Light with Jerry Harrison and Adrian Belew), The Marcus King Band and more.

“That jam thread is still very important to the festival and to us, and it’s something that we want to continue to have a prominent presence on the lineup,” Benson says. “Hopefully the fans of that world are excited about our offerings this year.”

The event’s primary SuperJam for 2020 will be helmed by electro-pop duo Sylvan Esso, which leaves the door open for “It will be Sylvan Esso and a lot of their core friends, so let your imagination run in terms of who that might be. We think that’s going to be a really really special moment at the festival this year.”

Physical updates to The Farm for 2020 include extending music on The Other stage until sunrise, adding to the size of the Which stage, general improvement to onsite traffic and a new GA+ ticket type (with Centeroo bathrooms, shade, AC and exclusive bars).

Tickets for Bonnaroo 2020 – including General Admission and VIP passes – will go on sale Thursday, Jan. 9, at 12 Noon ET.
