The Meters: Funk Pioneers

The Meters are the pioneers of modern funk and arguably one of the most influential bands of all time. The New Orleans staples – who rose to fame in the ‘60s and ‘70s – have shaped the direction of hip-hop, jam and indie, and have also shared the stage with legends like Paul McCartney and The Rolling Stones. Yet, The Meters are still relatively unknown to many music fans. After reuniting for an appearance at this year’s Bonnaroo with Dr. John, The Meters are finally back together – for now – and retell their story to noted New Orleans music critic John Swenson.

Medeski Martin & Wood: Yes, No & Maybe

In celebration of MMW’s 20th anniversary, Tad Hendrickson retraces the group’s footsteps through an extensive oral history. Longtime friends such as John Scofield, Trey Anastasio, Luther Dickinson, Steve Bernstein and Marc Ribot also discuss their rich history with these sonic experimentalists.

Derek Trucks & Susan Tedeschi: Bound for Glory

After leading separate and equally successful careers, the husband and wife team of Derek Trucks and Susan Tedeschi put their respective projects aside to tour together in 2010. Branding themselves the Tedeschi Trucks Band, the couple assembled a dream band and recorded the neo-soul/blues/gospel classic, Revelator. Holly Gleason goes backstage with Trucks and Tedeschi to discuss their decision to risk their livelihood for a more family-based musical affair.

Pretty Lights: Making the Walls of the City Quake

In a few short years, Pretty Lights (aka Derek Vincent Smith) has gone from playing STS9 aftershows to selling out amphitheaters like Red Rocks by utilizing the grassroots tools popularized by classic jambands. He’s more of an improviser than a DJ and is part of a small pack of electronic musicians who have made their names playing rock venues instead of dance clubs. Writer Benjy Eisen also speaks to former Pretty Lights drummer Adam Deitch about his recent departure from the

Plus: Foster the People, The Felice Brothers, Umphrey’s McGee, Tea Leaf Green, Jeff Bridges, Summer Festival Recap, Gomez and much more.
