On Saturday, June 17, Bonnaroo Music & Arts Festival continued with another jam-packed day of music. Yesterday kicked off with a mid-afternoon set courtesy of R&B/soul outfit Thee Sacred Souls, who took over the This Tent for an hour-long performance. Elsewhere on the festival grounds, Danielle Ponder cascaded through originals and covered Ellie Greenwhich’s “River Deep, Mountain High” and Radiohead’s “Creep.”

Pre-sunset, Sheryl Crow glided over to the What Stage, starting her frame with fan favorite “Soak Up the Sun” before sprinkling covers of Cat Stevens’ “The First Cut Is the Deepest” and The Rolling Stone’s “Live With Me” amongst other originals. Also, during her frame, Crow shared remarks supporting mental health and transgender rights–the latter inspired her song “Hard to Make a Stand,” which also graced the setlist.

Cory Wong’s Syncopated Superjam represented a high point during yesterday’s presentation, which culminated in collaborative deliveries supported by the host’s band. The covers-heavy display brought out guests such as Devon Gilfillian, Sammy Rae, Joey Dosik, Robbie Wulfsohn, Tal Wilkenfeld, Jake Luppen, Sierra Hull, Theo Katzman, Danielle Ponder, Hanson, Victor Wooten, Antwaun and others.

Favorable moments of the Superjam included takes on Steely Dan classics, including “Peg” and “Dirty Work,” which brought out guests Rae and Dosik. Wooten and Antwaun’s assistance on Earth, Wind & Fire’s “Can’t Find Love” was another high point before Hull joined the celebrated bassist on “Stomping Grounds.” For the final song of the Superjam, Remi Wolf and Katzman delivered “Tell Me Something Good.”

While the final notes of the Superjam were roaring, Tyler Childers arrived for his highly-anticipated set of music, which included a cover of Bobby Weir’s Ace classic, “Greatest Story Ever Told,” which he performed alongside the Grateful Dead legend during the 50th-anniversary celebration of Weir’s debut solo release, which took place at New York’s Radio City Music Hall in 2022.

With a waning crescent moon lingering overhead, evening sets rolled out, including a frame from Lil Nas X, who tapped into the celebratory nature of Pride Month during his festival slot. To follow the rap-leaning performance on the What Stage, headliner Odesza arrived and dug into their electronic display . Yesterday’s headliners debuted at The Farm in 2014, growing their following yearly with a beaming array of songs and instrumental moments.

As night turned into morning, one of Bonnaroo’s most prized acts arrived. My Morning Jacket played their first show at the festival in 2003, performing annually till 2008 and periodically thereafter. Last night, they continued their Roo legacy on the Which Stage, during which they nodded toward past performances, specifically their 2004 set, which was recently turned into an LP dubbed Live From Bonnaroo 2004. Beckoning to the aforementioned delivery, the band started out their early A.M. gig with “Mahgeetah,” which also kicks off their new record.

Also, My Morning Jacket recalled their 2006 late-night show, with debut covers, such as Sunday morning takes on Kate Bush’s “Running Up That Hill (A Deal with God)” and Traffic’s “Feelin’ Alright?” Additionally, a classic performance of “Holdin’ On to Black Metal” referenced their 2008 performance on The Farm.

Music picks back up with early afternoon sets from Paris Jackson and Kip Moore. View Sunday’s schedule here.
