Last night, March 14, Willie Nelson performed his headlining set during the 2024 edition of the Luck Reunion, a one-day event at the famed musician’s Luck Ranch in Spicewood, Texas. During Nelson’s highly anticipated appearance, he brought up a special guest, Kermit The Frog and Particle Kid, to assist with a series of songs, including “Rainbow Connection.”

The pairing was a long time coming, given that Nelson covered the 1979 tune, which originated from The Muppets Movie on his 2001 LP, aptly titled Rainbow Connection. Notably, during the 2019 CMA Awards, Nelson appeared alongside Kacie Musgraves–whose new LP Deeper Well was released in total today–to cover the beloved dreamscape humdinger.

Also, during the Luck Reunion team-up featuring Kermit and Nelson, the pair performed classic material, such as the gospel-infused “Will The Circle Be Unbroken,” “I’ll Fly Away,” and “Hard to Be Humble.” Nelson’s son, Particle Kid, also appeared on other tunes during his father’s frame, like “I Thought About You, Lord.”

Before the Nelsons and Kermit’s joint performance, The Muppet shared the stage with a variety of talent, including My Morning Jacket, during their Newport Folk Festival appearance, Debbie Harry, and most recently, Barbra Streisand.

Yesterday, Nelson announced his forthcoming LP, The Border, previewing the impending set, due on May 31, with the title track. Read more
