Over the weekend, Greensky Bluegrass participated in the Levitate Flannel Jam Festival. The multi-locational music celebration began on Saturday, Oct. 8, at Marshfield Fairgrounds in Marshfield, Mass., followed by a sweep through Portland, Maine. During the group’s initial festival appearance, they welcomed an onslaught of talented guests to the stage, including Bronwyn Keith-Hynes and Domnick Leslie. Then, they followed up on Sunday by bringing out Molly Tuttle, Elliott Peck, and Grahame Lesh to assist with a selection of tunes.

After kicking off their Oct. 8 festival appearance with the original “What You Need,” the band rolled into the traditional “Little Maggie” followed by “Give a Shit” and the title track off 2022’s Stress Dreams. Next, Greensky Bluegrass welcomed fiddler Bronwyn Keith-Hynes and mandolin player Domnick Leslie to assist on a pairing of “Fixin’ to Ruin” and “Burn Them.” Then, the Michigan natives pulled out “Past My Prime” before two covers: The Allman Brothers Band’s “Ain’t Wastin’ Time No More” and Jimmy Martin’s “Hit Parade of Love.” They closed out the set on “Old Barns” and “Leap Year” before returning for an encore of “Grow Together,” concluding their day one appearance at Levitate Flannel Jam.

To follow up on Friday’s performance, Greensky Bluegrass worked their way up the coast, arriving in Portland, Maine, on Saturday, just in time for their slot at Maine Craft Distilling. Once there, the band began their set with a handful of originals before a special moment when Molly Tuttle took the stage for a duet alongside Dave Bruzza on the Cliff Friend-penned “I Told Them All About You.” Next, the band returned to assist the musicians on “Worry For You,” before Tuttle exited, leaving Greeksky Bluegrass to finish their set.

After Tuttle’s sit-in, Greeksky Bluegrass continued their set by exploring their repertoire as they jumped from one album to the next, covering material off of If Sorrows Swim, The Leap Year Sessions: Volume One, Five Interstates and more. The band ended their festival appearance with an encore cover of Norton Buffalo’s “Ain’t No Bread in the Breadbox.” For the final tune, the billed band brought out guest Elliott Peck to assist with vocals and Grahame Lesh to help on the guitar.

Following the band’s Sunday stand, they continued with one final festival appearance as a part of Levitate Flannel Jam Festival in Portsmouth, N.H., where they worked through a variety of original material. Next up, the band will take some time off the road before a two-night appearance at Humphrey’s By The Bay in San Diego, Calif., on Oct. 27 and 28.
