From May 2 through 4, the BeachLife Festival occurred at the Redondo Beach Pier in Redondo Beach, Calif. The three-day event was centered around action-packed daily lineups, featuring various artists and acts, positioned across four sponsored stages.

Day one presented a mix of talent, including the husband-and-wife folk duo Shovel & Ropes, who kicked off entertainment on the Hightide stage, before ensuing sets from separately billed bands, The Struts and Aloe Blacc.

On the festival grounds, O.A.R. treated their audience to a tour through their discography, spanning their earliest studio work, 1997’s The Wanderer, through post-aughts outputs like 2011’s King

Friday’s schedule led to headliner Lenny Kravitz’s stage time, which produced fan favorites “Fly Away,” “Are You Gonna Go My Way,” “Minister of Rock n’ Roll,” and more selected songs that showcased the musician’s peak releases.

Day two brought more action to the Southern California location, with the arrival of ALO on the heels of their LP release, Frames, and a taste of the classics on “Girl, I Wanna Lay You Down.” Also on the docket, CAKE worked through a selection of originals, conjuring the end of their frame after fan favorite, “The Distance.”

Punk pop crossovers, the Pretenders, were helmed by Chrissie Hynde and consisted of various pulls from across the group’s 40-plus year tenure. Headliners Sublime proceeded with an outpouring of 23 songs, ending with the cherished “Santeria.”

The final day of music brought an added layer of collaboration to the festival scene, including swapped sit-ins between Marcus King and members of Mt. Joy. The latter also covered traditional “I Know You Rider” into “Let Loose” during their frame. The Beach Boys kept the motif by inviting Mark McGrath of Sugar Ray and John Stamos.

Before headliner Alanis Morissette took the stage, Jackson Browne turned in his festival frame and brought out up-and-comer/ student Saxon Weiss to assist on “Take It Easy” and “Our Lady of the Well.”
