The String Cheese Incident Welcome Brandon Niederauer, Members of The Motet and More at SweetWater 420 Fest

April 21, 2018

Atlanta’s SweetWater 420 Fest opened up on its namesake date on Friday with a day of music that featured a headlining performance from The String Cheese Incident, who marked the occasion with a number of guests, including young guitar phenom Brandon “Taz” Niederauer and members of The Motet, who also played the fest earlier in the day.

After kicking off their first set with some original staples like “Let’s Go Outside” and newer cuts like “Song In My Head” and “My One and Only,” SCI brought out The Motet vocalist Lyle Divinsky, his bandmate Dave Watts and vocalist Rhonda Thomas for the band’s live debut of new single “Get To You,” which they released just earlier this week (the studio version also features Divinsky on vocals). The group followed that up by covering Jamiroquai’s “Space Cowboy” for the first time since 2010, then closing out the first set with the title track to last year’s studio album Believe.

Set two opened up with a guest spot from Niederauer, who helped out on “Close Your Eyes” with some impressive guitar work that prompted Michael Kang to say, “The future is in good hands.” Niederauer and Thomas would later return to sit in on SCI’s encore “I Saw the Light.”

See the full setlist below as it appears in our Box Scores section, along with full pro-shot video of both SCI sets and The Motet’s earlier show via SweetWater’s free live stream (String Cheese start at about 6:39:45 in the video). The festival continues today with music and more free live streams from Tedeschi Trucks Band, Joe Russo’s Almost Dead, SOJA and more.
