Yes, James Hetfield Was As “Livid” As You’d Expect After Metallica’s Grammys Disaster

Metallica at the very least looked like they were having a good time at the Grammys. The only problem was that nobody could hear them, as James Hetfield’s mic cut out during their duet with Lady Gaga on the Hardwired track “Moth Into Flame.”

Hetfield, from the looks of it on the broadcast, was pretty steamed as one would be. And Lars Ulrich, appearing on The Late Late Show with Grammys host James Corden, confirmed that notion. “Haven’t seen him like that in twenty years,” Ulrich said of Hetfield after the show, calling him “livid” over the technical difficulty. “He’s a pretty chill guy, but the first five-ten minutes in the dressing room was not a lot of fun.”

Ulrich went on to explain that in the midst of the chaos, it’s tough to tell just how a technical difficulty is affecting the overall performance. The drummer said that no matter what, he just had to keep playing and noted that he heard it “made for good television.” Watch below.
