Watch Pro-Shot Video of “Bathtub Gin”> “You Sexy Thing” from Phish’s Alpharetta Finale

August 7, 2018

Before they continue their summer tour with the first of two nights in Camden, NJ, this evening, Phish shared a look back to their impressive run in Alpharetta, GA, this past weekend, which rounded out with a Sunday finale that featured the return of one of last summer’s signature, donut-flavor-themed covers from the Baker’s Dozen at New York’s Madison Square Garden.

After opening the night with the unexpected resurrection of their cover of Hot Chocolate’s “You Sexy Thing” (followed by a “Tweezer Reprise,” no less), Phish returned to the tune at the end of the second set, following a euphoric run of crowd favorite “Bathtub Gin,” and today the band shared pro-shot footage from the second-set closer. It’s hard to tell whether it was a planned event, as Trey Anastasio led the way back into “You Sexy Thing,” and his bandmates seemed amused with the choice throughout the snippet. Watch the video below.

In other Phish news, SiriusXM’s limited-run Phish Radio channel continues to take over the Jam_On channel, and today the internet radio giant shared a video taken from the channel’s “Ask Trey” segment, which features Jam_On’s Ari Fink interviewing Anastasio with fan questions. The new video shows Anastasio answering a question about his first impression of Jon Fishman, with Anastasio recalling how he first spied the drummer at the University of Vermont and couldn’t believe his outfit, which included a tie-dye shirt “down to his knees,” “big hair,” “ill-fitting Coke-bottle glasses” and “a ridiculous look on his face.” Anastasio called the meeting “love at first sight” through bouts of laughter.
