Watch Oteil Burbridge Lead Melvin Seals, John Kadlecik, Scott Metzger and More at Brooklyn Bowl

January 17, 2018

Oteil Burbridge is preparing to close out his Oteil & Friends tour in support of his latest solo effort, Water in the Desert, before starting out his 2018 Dead & Company schedule next month, and the bassist played Brooklyn Bowl last night with help from a band featuring JGB keyboardist Melvin Seals, guitarists John Kadlecik and Scott Metzger, drummer Jay Lane, percussionist Weedie Braimah and vocalist Alfreda Gerald.

The two-set performance opened with the title track from Burbridge’s solo album but quickly turned to a host of covers, including cuts from the Grateful Dead/Jerry Garcia’s extensive catalog of originals and cover renditions, including “Deep Elem Blues,” “Rubin and Cherise,” second-set opener “Eyes of the World,” “Scarlet Begonias,” “Sugaree,” “So Many Roads” and the second-set closing “Run for the Roses.”

Also featured in the setlist were covers of the Allman Brothers Band, Bob Dylan, The Band, The Isley Brothers, Kadlecik’s Golden Gate Wingmen and more, including an encore offering of Creedence Clearwater Revival’s “Proud Mary.”
