Watch Oteil Burbridge and Stuart Bogie Help Joe Russo’s Almost Dead Have an Absolute Blast at Brooklyn Bowl

April 21, 2017

Last month, Joe Russo’s Almost Dead switched it up a bit by welcoming Oteil Burbridge into their ranks for three nights at Brooklyn bowl, part of a six-show residency over two weeks, and the bassist showcased some of his Dead & Company lessons with the band, helping them reach new levels with their electric Grateful Dead tribute.

Almost Dead released a taste of that collaboration with Burbridge in the form of a pro-shot video of “Black Throated Wind” > “Touch of Grey” from night one of the second weekend. Also joined by Superhuman Happiness saxophonist and Antibalas collaborator Stuart Bogie, the collective run through “Wind” (with a tease of Lorde’s “Royals” during the intro thanks to keyboardist Marco Benevento) before building to a frenzied peak featuring some frenetic Tom Hamilton solos and break into a dance-party “Grey” that has the whole band smiling.

Watch the video below, and read our recent interview where Russo talks about the collaboration with Burbridge and Bogie here.
