Meryl Streep is a rockstar in many ways, but in her new film Ricki and the Flash she gets to play an actual rockstar, portraying Ricki, the frontwoman who lives the rock and roll lifestyle. To get into the role, Streep says she got some advice from someone who might know–Neil Young. Not only did Young spend some time teaching Streep how to play the guitar for about 45 minutes, he also gave her some advice on how to step into the role of a rockstar. 

“He said, ‘You see all the wires and all the amplifiers and you go: What is all this shit?!'” with a swift kicking motion. “And then he said, ‘Just crank it up to eleven.'” 

Streep also namechecks some of the musicians she played with in the film, including Rick Springfield and Bernie Worrell. Watch some of the interview below. Ricki and the Flash is out August 7.
