Last time we checked in on J Mascis, the Dinosaur Jr. guitarist and frontman was helping Pearl Jam rock out to Neil Young in Berlin, but this time around it’s a bit of a 180-degree turn, as Mascis apparently stopped by a karaoke bar in Provincetown, MA, recently to belt out some Tom Petty. 

Captured on classic vertical-shot phone video by bar patron Ryan Bakerink (via Stereogum), Mascis’ performance of Petty’s “Don’t Do Me Like That” is relatively unassuming, with the rock icon delivering a pretty spot-on match for Petty’s unique vocal delivery while doing the age-old awkward karaoke shuffle on stage. It’s hard to say how many people were in the bar to witness this strange and wonderful event, but it sure doesn’t look like a packed crowd.
