Last night, TNT aired an hour-long special with Dave Matthews Band centered around their 25th anniversary show in Charlottesville, VA back in May. The piece saw the band give a rare collective interview, discussing their individual origins and how they eventually connected in the local community to create one of the most successful rock bands ever.

Particularly drummer Carter Beauford, who rarely speaks publicly, provides a unique perspective along with Matthews, guitarist Tim Reynolds and Stefan Lessard who all came up (along with Boyd Tinsley, who remained a bit quiet throughout) through the Charlottesville community. Beauford recounts the first time Matthews pulled him and LeRoi Moore upstairs in Miller’s, a bar in Charlottesville, to play them the first songs he had written. “We looked at each other and said, ‘This guy has something,'” Beauford remembers. The drummer also describes seeing Matthews act locally in Charlottesville, not knowing he was also a musician.

Watch an interview with the whole band and a pair of performances from that show in Charlottesville, including “What Would You Say” and “Grey Street.”
