Customarily at the end of “Jimi Thing,” Dave Matthews Band work in a certain snippet of a cover and over the last couple of years, that has consisted mainly of Prince’s “Sexy MF” and at the band’s first show of 2016 in Charlottesville, VA to celebrate their 25th anniversary, they went a step further with the tune to honor Prince.

Joining forces with longtime collaborator and Charlottesville local John D’Earth, who joined Rashawn Ross and Jeff Coffin in the horn section for “Jimi Thing” and the subsequent “Sexy MF,” the group dipped into a funk groove that found its way into the Prince cut from his 1992 Love Symbol record.
