Watch Members of The Dead Visit The White House
“All of a sudden the door flies open and there’s President Obama saying, ‘Hey guys! Come on in!,” Jeff Chimenti recalls in a 2009 video, just moments after members of The Dead met the commander-in-chief.
In the two-minute mini-documentary, produced by Justin Kreutzmann, you can see Bob Weir, Phil Lesh, Mickey Hart, Bill Kreutzmann, Warren Haynes and Chimenti mingle with the President in the Oval Office, right at the beginning of his first term.
“It feels like it’s ours,” Hart says offhand at one point, referring to the White House.
“It is,” Obama counters patting the Rhythm Devil on the shoulder. “It’s the people’s house.”
Interestingly, Hart is currently visiting Washington DC, as a guest of incumbent House Speaker Nancy Pelosi.
