On Thursday night at this year’s Lockn’ Festival, Umphrey’s McGee and The String Cheese Incident engaged in jamband warfare as both fired off intertwined hour-long sets, culminating in a special collaboration with Kool and the Gang and String Cheese Incident. The second Umphrey’s McGee set contained one of their more impressive performances in quite some time, as the “Puppet String” and “Higgins” sandwich stretched to 28-minutes in total and featured just about every type of improv imaginable.

“Puppet String” has become a key player in UM’s improv arsenal and continues to deliver standout versions time after time. If you’re looking for other examples of the power of the tune lately, check out the “Puppet String” > “Glory” segment from the band’s August 9 show at The Tower Theatre.

Pro-shot of the scorching performance from Lockn’ is now available via YouTube. Watch it below.
