Video Premiere: The Get Right Band “Motivation”

July 22, 2016

The new album from the Get Right Band is set for release on August 5. The group recorded Who’s in Charge? in their hometown of Asheville, NC at famed Echo Mountain Studio with production duties assumed by Julian Dreyer, GRB frontman Silas Durocher and group. Dreyer (The Avett Brothers, Zac Brown Band) also engineered and mixed the record which was mastered by six-time Grammy winner Brian Lucey (The Black Keys and Beck).

Who’s in Charge? explores the winning blend of funk, rock and reggae that has gained the group a devoted following.  Today we premiere the official video for “Motivation,” which touches on a common summer problem: lack of motivation. The group tells Relix, “It’s incredibly easy to get bogged down by lack of motivation. There’s so much to get us to that place: heartbreak, politics, jobs… the state of the world! “Motivation” is an expression of that feeling, which sometimes seems to come at you from every direction at once. But then we hit the chorus: ‘I should be stronger than this.’ It’s a lament and an inspirational mantra at the same time. So you end up with these fluctuating feelings of, on the one hand, dissatisfaction and lack of motivation, and on the other hand, the desire to pick yourself up, the knowledge that you have to. All of those lyrical ideas get delivered through a musical blend of rock n’ roll and reggae… we used the music and the comedy in the video to balance out those feelings of apathy.”

The Get Right Band is particularly dynamic in the live setting and their animated performances draw on their penchant for free-wheeling improvisation. The group will be touring over the coming months in support of the record, with their upcoming dates listed below the video.
