On May 11, Atlanta-based quartet, Brother Hawk, will release their latest studio effort. The group’s invigorating blues rock is well represented on The Clear Lake which was engineered by TJ Elias (Mastodon, Blackberry Smoke) and mastered by Billy Bowers (AC/DC, Kingston Falls). Today we premiere the title track from the record, which vocalist/ guitar player J.B. Brisendine explains, “is all about finding peace, seeing things for what they really are, and embracing love. It’s a concept my Mom Leslie gave to me one day. I was facing a tough decision and she told me, ‘You’ll see exactly what to do, you’re the Clear Lake baby.’ From there ‘The Clear Lake’ became anything or place or person that can be that peace for me. So that’s what the song became about, the verses being the depression and a muddled mind, and the chorus a list of things that pull me out of it. “You’re just like smoke from the chimney, just like a heron on the breeze. You’re just like the wind through the trees, just like On The Beach, just like all those things that comfort me when I’m in need”. On The Beach is my favorite Neil Young record and it was my dad’s too.”
As for the video, Brisendine explains that it’s comprised of “shots from us in the studio making the record, and shots of us playing in an empty house on my family’s property that we call “The Red House.” We had fish frys in that house while I was growing up. All the nature shots are also from my family’s property where I grew up in Rockdale County, GA, which is one big Clear Lake for me. We practice there, and all the vocals and harmonica for the new record were recorded there. The video was shot and edited by our good friend William Felch who operates under the name Wombat Fire.”
