Stirring British vocalist Yola has collaborated with The Black Keys’ Dan Auerbach on her forthcoming record. Auerbach co-wrote the material with Yola and recorded Walk Through Fire at his Easy Eye Sound studio in Nashville. He will release the record on February 22 via his Easy Eye Sound label. Auerbach reflects, “The moment I met Yola I was impressed. Her spirit fills the room, just like her voice…she has the ability to sing in a full roar or barely a whisper and that is a true gift. She made everyone in the studio an instant believer.”
Today we premiere the official video for “Love All Night (Work All Day)” directed by Dan Teef. The song showcases the warm, soulful vocals that continue to engage new audiences across the globe. Yola, who at one point was homeless on the streets of London, tells Relix that the tune “celebrates something many of us live through. Having to hustle. For me this was my early adulthood, growing up in Bristol and working multiple jobs as I was trying to get by as I started in music. Lots of my peers hustled like this too, trying to fund their passion, their future. I want to celebrate these people! Increasingly musicians are missing this part of life, as it becomes the purview of the privileged. I want to hear more music from the working class as well. I want to hear about the long and winding road that leads them to the top echelons of music. To me and to many others that need to hear it, it’s a truly uplifting perspective.”
On February 6 Yola will make her New York debut at Rockwood Music Hall Stage 2. She will celebrate the release of her album with a performance at Grimey’s record store in Nashville on February 22 followed by a gig at The Analog at the Hutton on February 23.
