Seattle-based throwback-soul outfit The Dip will release their new album, The Dip Delivers, on February 8, and today we premiere a live version of one of the record’s singles, “She Gave Me the Keys.”

“This rendition of ‘She Gave Me the Keys’ has been a new staple in our live show and we wanted to capture this energetic arrangement at Seattle’s historic Avast! Studios,” Dip drummer Jarred Katz tells Relix. “Halfway through the song we trade in our easy-going shuffle for a break-neck paced, blues-riffing hootenanny that would make anyone want to get up and get moving. It’s like taking a joyride in the Cadillac around the block and then some!”

The Dip’s sound evokes the spirit of classic, big-band soul and newer acts in that vein like the roster at Brooklyn’s Daptone Records, including Sharon Jones & The Dap-Kings, whose song “The Dap Dip” inspired the seven-piece Dip’s name.

Watch the group play “She Gave Me the Keys” live at Avast! Studios below.
